The recent shooting of two unarmed police officers in Christchurch has sparked further calls to have our police carry firearms at all times.
I think that police should be armed because of other people who have guns. If police didn't have guns then people will know that they can't harm them so that way other people can.We could lose lots of policemen if they didn't have guns because people wouldn't be threatened by them. I don't think that police even use guns very often. I think they are just to warn people that they could harm you.
ReplyDeleteI think that police should carry firearms as they are used to protect themselves. As their job is to protect the community and to catch criminals. If anything should be looked at it should be the use of guns and firearm licences. Leting criminals arm themselves with guns and wepons is the wrong thing to do but it is then penilising hunters and people that respect guns and gun laws and only use them for hunting rabbits, deer ect
ReplyDeleteI think that police officers should carry firearms because they have to stop crimanals from hurting other people and from hurting any other police officers when they are on duty and most of the other countries already do carry firearms on them so its not like we will be the only country were police officers do carry firearms with them
ReplyDeleteI think Police offices should be armed at al times. otherwise people don't think they can be safe in there own Coumuity if there are mently ill people on the streets or murders on the lose. People who do these bad things won't be in any danger or won't think they are. So they should be armed or we might end up losing alot of police offices in the up coming years.

I think that police officers should be armed to protect themselves and the community. there have been a lot of shootings recently and some of these could have been prevented if the police had guns. They normally only carry batons and pepper spray, but these wouldn't be of much use in a hostage situation or if someone's pointing a gun at you, or one of your fellow officers have been shot. If that happens, the only people who could stop someone being killed is the armed offenders squad and by the time they get there there could be no use for them as the criminal might have killed the police officer and escaped.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion about wether or not police shoud carry firearms at all times is that they should. The reason i say this is because of saftey for the police and other people around them that are in danger. For example if there was a robbery and the teller way at gunpoint and they sent in a negotiator if the negotiator or the hostage was shot at then the negotiator woul be able to retaliate. Or what about just using it as a bluff weapon so you could theaten someone and offer them surrender or else but oviously this is a hollow threat. You would only use this or any other option as a last resort so basical it would be smart to have all police officers to have firearms for their saftey and everyone elses.

I think that police officers should be armed because there have been two many police deaths occurred when the police have not been armed in New Zealand and when the the seig happend in some where in NewZealand and there was two officers that were un armed. And i think that officers shouldent have firearms because the are acedentally killing or wounding inocent people when cops are trying to get the criminal.

ReplyDeleteNew Zealand is quite a safe place, and we do not have a huge record for crime. Yes, we do demonstrate our fair share of crime, in some places more than others but there is hardly ever a huge risk of police being attacked. Even if there is, all Police have been trained and most are more than capable of defending themselves.
If Police were allowed firearms, there would always be a chance that things could go horribly wrong, for instance the offender could get hold of it and use it on the Policeman/woman instead, or the Police could actually shoot someone by accident that wasn’t in the wrong.
It could also be a good thing for Police to be armed, because it would be good for self defence against those who have their own weapon. But overall I would suggest things stay the way they are, and Police remain without firearms.

Should police carry around firearms? It would help them to handle and take care of situations better and might have saved the two officers lives recently shot in Christchurch. There would be a massive amount of lives saved but as well as a whole lot dead. Where I come to my next point. Even though a lot of lives could possibly be saved there could also be a few deaths in the mixed of it from such things as miss firers and bad aiming. Also all of the officers would have to be special trained and thousands of gun licences as well as guns would have to be paid for out of the tax payers’ money, quite possible raising the tax budget. So I have come to a conclusion even though it might save a couple off lives and help a heck of a lot of situations I think that fire arms on every police officers would be a waste of money and may cause some situations to go out of control. Instead I think that there should be at least two or maybe even three police officers patrolling together, with one officer with the possession of a firearm.

I believe that not all police officers should be able to carry a weapon. They should have a special license that is earned with the amount of time that they have been on the force and a special test. There have been many allegations recently about police officers and them not performing their duties properly and just because they are on the force doesnt mean that they can disrespect the law and become less law obidient.
ReplyDeletePolice offices cars should be equpied with guns and police officers that work after around 10pm and before 7am should carry a gun as it is less safe but otherwise they shouldnt. Some might not be able to handle the responsibilty and let it get to their head.
I think the police should have firearms because it would make ther job a hole lot easier. If the police fired apon they can just shot back and wont have to retreat and wait for back up. I always here stuf on t.v about having to pay more tax because thers more and more people going into the jails. If the police are chasing a murderer they can just kill them meaning less tax for perants and more money for us the kid!!!!

I think that police have every right to carry frie arms because the amount of poluce being hurt and even killed should not be happening . pokice are there to protect us and and if they cant protect them selves then how on earth are they surposed to protcet us?most of the police are in the right when they use fire arms and such so how i dont see any harmn if they are useing them to do good .
ReplyDeleteIf members of the public decied to disagree with this then its like saying that they dont want to be kept safe and that is stupid in my opion. the amount of police being hrut or killed doing the job they love is sad and its hard to think that whrn thy died they died to keep usb safe and that is not good :(
I would like to know that i am beibg kept safe and if that means we have to allow this rule i dont see why not.

I think that police officers should have firearms on them at all times because, people might have a gun and the police have no guns or anything to help themselves so they have to calll for back up. The bad thing is that someone might take there gun and use it against them.
